Games Galore

Fridays from 2-5 pm - Vancouver Library (Children's Program Room, Level 3)

Drop in each week for a variety of fun: board games, group games, and paper and pencil games.

Science Sleuths

Duct Tape Wallets    

Thursday, February 2, 4-5:45 p.m. - Gregory Heights Library - 7921 N.E. Sandy Make a duct tape wallet of your own and add design components and/or a cool design to the front. All materials will be provided. 

 

Set Up Your Own Blog with Josh Monen

Saturday, February 4 from 10-11:30 am - Battle Ground Community Library

Love Stories from StoryCorps

In All There Is: Love Stories from StoryCorps, StoryCorps founder Dave Isay shares stories of love and marriage from this revolutionary oral history project, revealing the many and remarkable paths that relationships can take. Just in time for Valentine's Day, this powerful collection bears witness to love in its varied forms, enriching our understanding of that most magical feeling. Cosponsored by OPB.

Second Saturday at the Water Center: Interesting Inventions!

February 11, 1 - 3 PM - Water Resources Education Center - 4600 SE Columbia Way

Inquisitive young minds are encouraged to attend the Water Resources Education Center’s Second Saturday event in order to try their hands at re-creating and learning about several interesting inventions. Discover some great and some not-so-great inventions of the past.

 

Hand-Made Valentines    

Saturday, February 11, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. - North Portland Library - 512 N. Killingsworth

Artist Kathy Karbo will show you how to create a one-of-a-kind valentine using copper wire, pipe cleaners, decorative papers and colorful beads and ornaments. Gain experience with hammers, anvils and needle-nose pliers. Fun for all ages!

No-Sew Recycled T-Shirts    

Saturday, February 18, 2-4 pm - Albina Library - 3605 N.E. 15th Ave.

Turn an old T-shirt into a useful shopping bag, then use the leftover recycled fabric scraps to make necklaces, bracelets, headbands, wrist cuffs and/or hats. Make all these items with no sewing required with the help of artist Lee Meredith of leethal.net. Welcome to Iran

A Battle Ground Library Monthly Travelogue. Portland film maker, Art Wright, joined Jackie and Mike Spurlock on their November 2008 trip to Iran. In this video project, he explores the rich history and modern-day vibrancy of this fascinating and little-known country.

Join us in welcoming the Tooth Fairy for a fun interactive show promoting sparkling dental health!

 

Brazilian Paper Coiling    

Wednesday, February 22, 6-7:30 p.m. - Gregory Heights Library - 7921 N.E. Sandy

In many countries, artisans turn simple scrap paper into colorful dishes, jewelry and various household items. In this workshop, artist Addie Boswell will teach two different ways to fold and curl magazine paper to turn it into beautiful bowls and coasters or unique bracelets and necklaces. Finished pieces can be sealed to protect the paper art for years.


Teens Make Terrariums    

Thursday, February 23, 4-5 p.m. - Hollywood Library  - 4040 N.E. Tillamook St.

What is a terrarium? It is a miniature garden that you can grow inside of a glass container. Join professional gardener Melissa Richmond in building your own terrarium. You will learn all about taking care of your plants and watching them grown inside. Teens will have their own terrarium to take home after class.
